Following its debut on Broadway and subsequent US tour, Shrek The Musical has arrived in the West End to ecstatic response.

The show provides fans of the grumbling ogre a chance to enjoy comic antics and amazing effects on stage at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Stage Technologies’ theatre automation expertise has once again ensured effects that are smooth, seamless and jaw dropping, to the delight of the show’s audiences.

Stage Technologies' involvement in the show includes seven counterweight assisted pieces which are moved by Big Tow winches, as well as a control system to handle over two dozen axes including flying Redwood trees. This system includes four AU:tour 6 and one AU:tour 1 with an Acrobat G6 console, running eChameleon software. The axes controlled in the show include the trees, Fiona's tower & Lord Farquaad's castle.  Stage Technologies also provided servo motors from its extensive rental stock to run floor tracks and slider trusses.

An effect made possible using automation is a huge LED wall, which moves the sun and moon extremely slowly across the stage. It takes a full 10 minutes for these elements to make their journey, highlighting the versatility of this system, which can run axes anywhere from a millimetre per second to several metres per second.

The system comprised:

  • 4 AU:tour 6 control cabinets
  • 1 AU:tour 1 control cabinet
  • G6 Acrobat Console
  • 8 Big Tow Classic winches
  • 1 performer flying lift
  • 1 LED wall
  • 6 floor tracks
  • 7 power flying scenic elements
