The Explorer 2 system is an innovative way to provide a free-roaming wireless stage truck that is able to move to any location and orientation on stage by any path. The system consists of two steerable drive wheel cassettes, built into the two ends of the truck. This allows the truck to be steered both in straight lines and around curves.
An onboard laser scanner and computer control system allow the truck to continuously adjust for wheel slippage. The system is driven by high performance, onboard batteries and linked to the main control system via an industrial radio link, meaning that there are no wires running to the wagon. This makes it ideal for venues or performances that need to consider cable management carefully and allows unprecedented artistic flexibility.
Our standard drive mechanics provide for stage wagons of up to approximately 5 tonnes within a height of 400mm (11,000lbs within a height of 1.3 feet); however, custom-mechanical configurations can be implemented, depending on the requirements and scope of work.
See a demo video of wireless stage truck positioning on the Stage Technologies YouTube page.
