Offering unparalleled versatility, the second generation BigTows are a range of scenery moving winches designed for use in theatres and other entertainment applications. The patented zero fleet technology allows the winches to be mounted easily in any position without the concerns of fleet angle.

These multipurpose brushless servomotor winches are designed for use in fixed theatre installations and for touring productions, for power flying and counterweight assist, performer flying and moving scenery across the stage. All BigTow winches conform to BS 7905-1:2001 as well as the European Machinery Directive.

The BigTow winch consists of two basic components- a fixed "chassis" which is bolted to a support structure and a moving "carriage" that moves as the drum turns. The rotating elements of the winch are shaft mounted to facilitate the use of a wide variety of gearboxes, brakes and drum lengths. This arrangement also allows the optional use of a load cell, which can provide constant load monitoring.

The BigTow can be mounted in a variety of different orientations. The ropes can be fed off the drum "through the channels" or "past the motor". Internal diverter sheaves are available that can collect all the ropes off the drum and feed them out one end of the winch, in an array to match a header sheave on a multi-line system.

The designation BT2-nnn refers to the width of the chassis; there are three main sizes in the range at 200, 290 and 390mm wide.

The BT2-200 winch will lift loads of up to 300kgf at speeds of up to 2m/s (the balance of load and speed is determined by motor size and gearbox ratio). The innovative design enables the self weight of the winch to be kept to less than 130kg for most configurations, allowing the unit to be portable.

Standard travel with two lines arranged in "roll-on/roll-off" configuration is 22.8 metres (75'), but different options are available.

Options

Cross Groove Detector
A detector bar inhibits upward motion should the steel wire rope come out of its groove.

Slack Rope Detector
The best location of the slack wire detector depends on the specific application and in most cases, this will be remote from the winch.

However, for applications where it is necessary to detect slack rope at the winch, the standard pinch roller unit can be replaced with a slack rope sensing unit, which inhibits downward motion when rope tension falls below a certain level.

Load Cell
A load cell allows constant monitoring of the load at the winch, whether moving or stationary.
