Reappearance of A Disappearing Number

A Disappearing Number, winner of the Olivier Award for Best New Play (2008), explores universal themes of love, loss and the questioning nature of the human spirit through the story of the 'most mysterious and romantic mathematical collaborations of all time'.

This is the second time Stage Technologies has provided a touring rental control system for the production company Principal Projects. As the story unwinds, scenes across three continents and different historical eras are created using a system of simple vertical sliders moved by four BigTow winches and controlled via an Illusionist desk.

The production first opened at Theatre Royal Plymouth in March 2007 and toured across the UK and Europe. Proving immensely popular, it was revived in 2008 at the Grec Festival Barcelona, UMS Ann Arbor Michigan, Festival D'Automne Paris, Barbican and Sydney Theatre. It has begun its 2010 tour in New York, followed by a summer circuit of India concluding at the International Congress of Mathematicians. After returning to the UK, Complicite's A Disappearing Number has a limited run at the Novello in the West End before launching the National Theatre's Live Season on 14th October, when it will be broadcast live from its home at Theatre Royal Plymouth to cinemas across the country.
