Six Degrees of Separation revived at the Old Vic
Stage Technologies is no stranger to The Old Vic theatre in London’s West End, where the rentals department has provided equipment for various productions in the past including a recent staging of Inherit the Wind with Kevin Spacey and theatre classics such as Arthur Miller’s Resurrection Blues.
For the current production of Six Degrees of Separation, a play which is all about the merging of very different worlds, a floor revolve is central to the scene setting. A Stage Technologies control system with Nomad desk is used to automate four sliding walls that curve around the revolve and are used in reveals. The revolve is driven by a Stage Technologies Revolution! drive and moves at speeds from less than 1° per second up to 15° per second. The walls move at speeds from 6mm per second up to 100mm per second over a distance of three metres.
6 Degrees of Separation originally debuted on Broadway in 1990 and in 1993 it was adapted as a film starring Stockard Channing, Donald Sutherland and Will Smith. This new production is the first major London revival of the play in almost 18 years.
