Mika's over the moon with Stage Technologies

The Stage Technologies rental crew worked recently with flywire, to supply a performer flying solution for the European leg of Mika's Imaginarium Tour. The performer flying tracking system, comprising two BigTow winches with an AU:tour 6 control rack and Illusionist desk control, was programmed by our team during rehearsals and handed over to the automation operator on the night of the first gig for an unruffled opening night. The system also included a FTSI Fastrack and diverter pulleys from flywire’s Steelwork range.

The British singer-songwriter, BRIT award winner and Grammy nominee, is flown on stage as an astronaut performing a theatrical space walk to the opening phrases of Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra – popularised as the musical motif of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The dramatic entrance and descent from 12 metres to a moonscape stage has delighted Mika’s European fans. The system is also used later in the show to fly two set pieces – a spaceship and a tree.

The flywire team and Stage Technologies have worked on numerous gigs, concerts and film shoots together in the past including Kylie’s 'Show Girl' and ‘X’ tours.
