After working with the Wynn Las Vegas, Stage Technologies was asked to provide show control for an extraordinary showpiece in the atrium of the Wynn Macau in 2006.

The Tree of Prosperity is the centre piece of the casino’s opulent atrium, and combines meticulous artwork with sophisticated automation technology. Guests are treated to a dramatic spectacle regularly throughout the day, when the 70-foot-high ceiling dome, illustrated with the animal symbols of the Chinese Zodiac, opens to reveal an LED screen, which displays a themed video. The screen then parts to make way for the descent of a 30-foot-diameter chandelier and simultaneously the floor dome also splits to allow the Tree to ‘grow’ to a height of 38 feet, while emotive lighting simulates the change of seasons and the passing of time. The Tree has 60 limbs, 2,000 branches, and 98,000 leaves, all made of gold and brass and decorated with gold flakes, gold leaf and glitter.

The Tree of Prosperity was recognised for ‘outstanding achievement – casino attraction’ at the Themed Entertainment Association’s Thea awards in 2009. The Stage Technologies show control system comprised:

This was used to automate third party equipment which included:

  • 12 position-locked axes for Chinese zodiac ceiling
  • 2 pairs of position-locked axes for LED screen
  • 3 axes for chandelier
  • 6 position locked axes for a ‘copper dome’, at floor level - this opens to reveal the Tree of Prosperity rising from the basement
  • 4 axes, torque sharing for lifting the tree
  • 2 axes, torque sharing, spinning the tree on the lift as it rises
